NYPD Unions Fighting Back Against Critics
The city’s police are under attack, the NYPD Sergeants Benevolent Association president said on Sunday. In a radio broadcast, SBA president Ed Mullins said city cops are now targeted by the media and "bottom-feeder politicians."
Police unions in New York are fighting back against what they perceive as unfair criticism in the wake of the arrest-related death of Eric Garner.
The city’s police are under attack, the Sergeants Benevolent Association president said on Sunday. In a radio broadcast, SBA president Ed Mullins said city cops are now targeted by the media and "bottom-feeder politicians."
The New York Daily News reports on a radio interview with the SBA president.
Mullins said he believes cops have been getting unfair treatment in the aftermath of Eric Garner’s death. Garner, a 43-year-old father of six, died on July 17 as cops tried to arrest him for selling illegal cigarettes in Staten Island.
While there's been an outcry across the city for police accountability, Mullins stressed that citizens shouldn't be resisting arrest in the first place.
"Had Eric Garner complied with lawful orders, none of this would be happening," he said in the interview on AM 970 The Answer.
