NYPD Officer Accidentally Shoots U.S. Marshal while Firing at Dog

An officer with the U.S. Marshals Services is in stable condition after he was accidentally shot by an NYPD officer during an early morning raid in Greenville, authorities said.

At about 6:30 a.m. the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Fugitive Task Force arrived at 9 Bayview Ave. to arrest a man wanted for robbery out of New York, sources said.

When law enforcement arrived, a large, aggressive dog started "attacking" one of the marshals. An NYPD officer assisting in the arrest fired at the dog—identified as a “pit bull”—five times, killing the animal, NYPD said in a statement.

However, one of the marshals was struck in the foot by the officer who killed the dog, authorities told NJ.com .
