The attorney representing a New York City police officer on trial for allegedly raping a school teacher at gunpoint said his client did "unforgivable" and "criminal" acts but shouldn't face 10 years to life, reports the New York Times .
Officer Franklin Mata, 27, allegedly threatened to shoot the 25-year-old woman in the face if she screamed or looked at him while he raped her in an Upper Manhattan courtyard last summer.
