A New York biker participating in a ride protesting helmet laws died after he was thrown from his motorcycle and suffered a head injury.

Philip A. Contos, 55, was killed on Saturday afternoon during a ride in Onondaga when his 1983 Harley fishtailed and threw him over the handlebars. Contos would likely have survived had he been wearing a helmet, according to New York State Police.
