North Carolina Officer Shot During Warrant Service Expected to Be OK

An officer with the Gastonia (NC) Police Department who was shot during a joint operation with the FBI early Friday morning reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to be OK.

An officer with the Gastonia (NC) Police Department who was shot during a joint operation with the FBI early Friday morning reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to be OK.

According to WFAE Radio , eight to 10 members of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force—which focuses on gangs, drugs, and organized crime—were approaching a residence to serve a search warrant related to a criminal investigation when shots rang out.

One officer—whose name has not been released—was struck. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

"We're very thankful that these are non-life-threatening wounds," said John Strong, special agent in charge of the FBI's North Carolina office.

The alleged gunman—identified as 47-year-old Larry McConneyhead—was arrested at the scene.
