An officer with the Gastonia (NC) Police Department who was shot during a joint operation with the FBI early Friday morning reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to be OK.
According to WFAE Radio, eight to 10 members of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force—which focuses on gangs, drugs, and organized crime—were approaching a residence to serve a search warrant related to a criminal investigation when shots rang out.
One officer—whose name has not been released—was struck. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
"We're very thankful that these are non-life-threatening wounds," said John Strong, special agent in charge of the FBI's North Carolina office.
The alleged gunman—identified as 47-year-old Larry McConneyhead—was arrested at the scene.
