North Carolina Officer Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash

An officer with the Dallas (NC) Police Department was reportedly killed Thursday morning when he ran off the road and struck a tree in a single-vehicle accident, according to the Gaston Gazette .

The officer, identified as Cpl. Travis Wells of Kings Mountain, had been on the force for 22 years, according to Dallas Police Chief Allen Scott.

Troopers say the officer was on duty at the time of the crash but was not responding to a call for service.

Scott said Wells was 46 and is survived by his spouse. He did not have any children.
