A Tarboro, N.C., police officer was killed in a wreck involving an NCDOT vehicle in Edgecombe County, authorities said.
The Tarboro Police Department told WCTI, Officer Charles Johnson was killed in the wreck on N.C. 111 near McKendree Church Road at about 8:40 a.m.Tuesday.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation said the accident involved Johnson's vehicle and an NCDOT excavator truck that had just left a maintenance yard.
Johnson died at the scene.
