North Carolina Officer, Civilian Driver Injured in Traffic Collision

An officer with the Kill Devil Hills (NC) Police Department and a civilian driver were injured in a vehicle collision early Wednesday morning.

According to NBC News , police say the officer was in his patrol vehicle with the emergency lights illuminated as he stood guard at the site where power crews were working in the pre-dawn hours when a pickup truck slammed into the rear of the squad car.

The driver—whose name has not been released—was transported via helicopter to a hospital with serious injuries.

The officer was transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. His condition has not been released.
