North Carolina Deputy Shot at Hospital, Suspect Killed

A Cumberland County, NC, sheriff’s deputy was shot and the suspect was killed during a gun grab attack this morning in the Emergency Department at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, authorities said.
A jail inmate shot the deputy in the leg at the hospital and the inmate then was shot and killed by a Fayetteville police officer, law enforcement reported.
The incident happened about 8:22 a.m. in the Emergency Department of the hospital, Fayetteville Police Chief Gina Hawkins told the Fayetteville Observer.
The deputy’s wound is not life-threatening, said Sgt. Jeremy Glass, a Fayetteville Police Department spokesman. Sheriff Ennis Wright said he was in good condition.

The Fayetteville officer who shot the suspect was a detective who happened to be at the hospital for an unrelated case, Hawkins said.
