North Carolina City Votes to Slash Police Budget by $770,000

The Ashville (NC) City Council on Tuesday night voted 5-2 to slash the police department budget by more than three quarters of a million dollars.

The Ashville (NC) City Council on Tuesday night voted 5-2 to slash the police department budget by more than three quarters of a million dollars.

According to the Greensboro News & Record , the funds—estimated at approximately $770,000—will be redirected toward other city departments addressing "various community programs" according to transcripts of the meeting and subsequent vote.

The result of the vote is a roughly three percent decrease in the budget—anti-police activists had wanted the budget cut in half.
