No Bail for Man Charged With Fatally Stabbing Delaware Sgt.

A New Castle County (Del.) Police officer was fatally stabbed during a physical struggle with a suspect he was taking into custody early Friday morning.

Sgt. Joseph Szczerba, 44, had responded to a call for a disorderly person in the Penn Acres community. Szczerba, an 18-year veteran, chased a man on foot. As the two struggled, 32-year-old David Salasky allegedly stabbed the officer in the neck.

Three other officers were injured taking Salasky into custody. Salasky has been formally charged with the murder and is being held without bail.
