New York Officer Injured, Civilian Motorist Killed in Vehicle Collision

An officer with the Suffolk County (NY) Police Department was seriously injured and a civilian motorist was killed when their vehicles collided in an early morning collision on Sunday.

According to NBC News , the officer was traveling northbound on a surface street on Long Island when the driver of a Honda Civic traveling in the opposite direction veered into his lane, causing the crash.

The civilian driver—identified as 28-year-old Ever Menjivar—was pronounced dead at the scene as the police officer was transported to a nearby hospital via helicopter with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
