A new department policy designed to identify and punish trouble-making officers before they cause any serious problems has drawn criticism from the cops themselves, worried it will unfairly treat officers simply trying to do their jobs.
The Early Identification and Intervention System assigns points to officers for involvement in certain incidents, such as car chases and accidents. Even a pursuit that ends with a suspect safely captured garners one point for an involved officer. After five points, an officer enters the review process.
