New Mexico Officer Fatally Stabbed Responding to Trespassing Call

Las Cruces, New Mexico, police officer Jonah Hernandez was fatally stabbed Sunday.

A Las Cruces, New Mexico, police officer died after he was stabbed in the line of duty Sunday afternoon.

Officer Jonah Hernandez of the Las Cruces Police Department died in the hospital after he was stabbed at least once when he responded to a trespassing call at around 5 p.m.

Based on their preliminary information, police believe the suspect was shot and killed by a person who witnessed part of the incident, News 4 reports.

The suspect's identity has not been revealed yet, but police did identify him as a 29-year-old man.


Officer Hernandez is survived by a wife and two sons (10 and 2).
