Monday afternoon, a West Long Branch, New Jersey, Police officer tied a rope around himself, went out on a frozen lake, and rescued an 11-year-old boy who had fallen through the ice.

Patrolman David Brosonski - an instructor with the Monmouth County Police Academy for water rescue - has been training for over 17 years for moments like this, and he was the first on the scene.
Despite his training, this was a first experience for him. Brosonski wasn't wearing a rescue suit, just his plain clothes, and the water was around 35 degrees. In those conditions, it only takes minutes before hypothermia starts setting in, the Asbury Park Press reports.
"I really didn't feel the cold," he said. "My focus was on the boy that was out in the lake."
The boy was unharmed, but taken to a hospital to make sure.
