The Henderson (NV) Police Department released a statement on Monday saying it has been approved to receive a grant of $220,000 from the Nevada Department of Public Safety to promote safety on local highways and enforce traffic safety laws.
According to NBC News, the Henderson Police Department is specifically aiming to reduce the number of traffic-related injuries and fatalities, and wishes to dedicate the grant funds to increasing enforcement of traffic laws in the region.
The agency said in a press release post to its website, that with the grant, "the Henderson Police Department will be able to team up with other area jurisdictions for a number of Joining Forces events from October 2020 through September 2021."
The announcement said further that "Joining Forces is a high visibility, multi-jurisdictional statewide effort to increase safety on Nevada’s roads by increasing enforcement and awareness of traffic laws including distracted driving, seat belts, speeding, and pedestrian safety."
The Henderson Police Department will utilize the data from last year’s enforcement efforts to implement planned enforcement and awareness activities. Our goal is to reduce the number of traffic fatalities as well as decrease the incidents of impaired driving.
