NC Officer Killed in Shootout, Suspect in Custody
Police say several shots were fired between the subject and Mount Holly police officers, as well as a Gaston County police officer who also responded to the call.

A Mt. Holly, NC, police officer was shot and killed Friday in an exchange of fire with a breaking and entering suspect, officials said.
Officer Tyler Herndon was 25. He would have been 26 on Sunday.
The suspect was also shot, but only suffered a minor injury, police told WSOC. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released before being transported to the Gaston County Jail.

Suspect Joshua Tyler Funk, 24, was booked on first-degree murder.
According to Gaston (County) Emergency Medical Services, the shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. at the Mount Holly Car Wash and Arcade.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is assisting the Gaston County agencies. CMPD says that during the encounter, several shots were fired between the subject and several Mount Holly police officers, as well as a Gaston County police officer who also responded to the call.
A third person was reportedly injured at the scene but no details have been released.
