N.C. Officer In Coma Following Training Accident

A Morehead (N.C.) Police officer has been placed in a medically induced coma after one of his fellow officers accidentally shot him during a training exercise.

Officer Garrett Hardin, 23, was shot in the chest during a Wednesday training exercise. Officer Hardin was not wearing his ballistic vest, reports WNCT .

Chief Wrenn Johnson took responsibility for the incident, which is now under investigation. "I am responsible for what happened," he said. "It's clear a mistake was made and we will take responsibility for it."
