The Metro Nashville Police Department reports that two of its officers entered Covenant School, went to the sound of gunfire on the second floor of the building, “engaged the shooter on the second floor and fatally shot (him)” to end today’s active shooter attack.
Nashville Officers Rushed to Sound of Gunfire to End Christian School Shooting
MNPD says the shooter was deceased 14 minutes after the attack began. No details have been released on how officers responded so quickly.

Three students and three adult staff members were killed in the attack, which reportedly began at 10:13 a.m. He reportedly shot his way into a side door.
MNPD says the shooter was deceased by 10:27 a.m. No details have been released on how officers responded so quickly.
It is likely the shooter planned a much higher body count. Police said he was carrying “two assault-style rifles” and a handgun.
The shooter has been identified by authorities as a 28-year-old former student at the school. The Tennessean reports he is a transgender man. Earlier reports said the shooter was female. Authorities have only released the shooter’s birth name.
Police say another location was planned to be the target of the attack, but the shooter switch to Covenant School because of tight security at the first site.
MNPD searched the shooter’s home and found a manifesto. The contents of the manifesto have not been released.
