A woman posted a lengthy thank you note on Facebook, expressing her gratitude for the actions of a DC Metro police officer who helped calm her young autistic son who was having an episode on a commuter train.
According to Taylor Pomilla's Facebook post, her son Andrew had a particularly upsetting meltdown first on the train, and then continued after the pair got off at the Gallery Place Metro station.
That's when a transit police officer (Dominic Case) approached and asked if he could help. The three got on the train and the officer amused the boy by showing him his duty gear and videos on his mobile phone for the 30 minutes of the ride to their home.
Pomilla explained, "This officer completely went out of his way to help Andrew. He honestly restored my faith that there are good people still left in the world. To that officer, I truly cannot say thank you enough for your immeasurable amount of kindness and for making Andrew's day (probably his whole year)."
Pomilla "tagged" a number of local media outlets in the post, and several of them picked up on the great story with news items of their own. The officer has since contacted the woman, and she says there may be a reunion of the three sometime soon.
