Miss. Investigator Killed Serving Warrant on Pedophile

A Pearl (Miss.) Police Department officer was fatally shot and two others were injured inside an apartment on Tuesday while serving a warrant for sexual battery and molestation.

Officer Mike Walter, a senior investigator, was allegedly shot by Carnell Gaines, 30, in the bathroom of an apartment where Gaines was holed up. Gaines was fatally shot by officers.

Officer Walter died shortly before noon, after he was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, reports the Clarion Ledger . The two other officers are in stable condition.

"Everyday we put on a shield it's a higher calling," Pearl Police Chief Ben Schuler told reporters. "Everyday we leave the house we know we might not come back."
