Michigan State Police Officer Dies from Crash Injuries
Officer Daniel Kerstetter, 45, could not overcome the injuries he suffered in a Friday Sept. 13 crash on I-75, and his family decided to make the organ donations, according to the state police.

Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Officer Daniel Kerstetter was killed when his vehicle was hit from behind. He was inside his vehicle and belted in his seat when an SUV crashed into him pushing his vehicle into a semitruck.

Kerstetter, 45, could not overcome the injuries he suffered in a Friday Sept. 13 crash on I-75, and his family decided to make the donations, according to the state police.
Married with three children, Kerstetter joined the state police in January 2023 and graduated in May 2023 as part of the 26th Motor Carrier Officer Recruit School, the state police said in the statement. He was assigned to the Metro North Post.
At about 8:30 a.m. Friday Sept. 13, Kerstetter was stopped behind a semitrailer on I-75 when a Ford Explorer struck the back of his police vehicle. Kerstetter was inside the vehicle, seated, and belted in, MLive reports.
The Explorer driver was killed.
Motor carrier officers are armed, uniformed members of the state police who specialize in commercial vehicle enforcement.
