Tuesday morning Dundee, Michigan, police and other public safety agencies responded to a call that someone had fallen through the ice into a pond.
Michigan Officer Falls Through Ice Helping Rescue 12-Year-Old Boy
Dundee Commercial Motor Vehicle Officer Joe Schumaker took a floatation device out on the ice to the victim. Officer Schumaker fell through the ice but “continued wading out to complete the rescue,” Dundee PD said.

“Emergency Crews began arriving within 3 minutes and observed a subject, later identified as a 12 year-old Dundee boy, in the middle of the pond struggling to stay afloat in the 20 foot water,” the Dundee Police Department said on Facebook.

“Officer Schumaker was joined by two men, Paxton Barnes and Garrett Desbrough of Dundee, and Dundee Officer Chrissy Hicks, Deputy Jeremy Lestock of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office as well as Dundee firefighters who assisted with a line from shore to help bring them safely back to shore,” the department said.
The boy was treated by Emergency Medical Services personnel on scene and was transported to Toledo Hospital for additional treatment. Officer Schumaker was treated on scene and returned to duty.
