A 20-year-old Saginaw, MI, man lost both his legs after being dragged by a train Monday, April 25, after leading police on a short foot chase.

Officers were initially dispatched at about 10 p.m. Monday to the 14th Street Market, at South 14th and Janes, for the report of an armed robbery at the store, Michigan State Police Lt. David Kaiser told MLive.

While police were looking for the robber, officers saw a car in the area that failed to use its turn signal, Kaiser said. The car also had an expired license plate, he said.

When officers attempted to stop the car, Kaiser said, the driver pulled into a driveway on South 14th, bailed out and fled on foot.

He said troopers chased the driver, who ran straight east and crossed South 15th and South 16th streets.

The man's path was then blocked by a train, which troopers reported was moving north along the railroad tracks east of South 16th.

"They ordered him to stop, but he got down on all fours and tried to crawl under the moving train," Kaiser said.
