Mehserle Weeps During Testimony, Grant Friend Distrupts Proceeding
Mehserle told a jury in a Los Angeles courtroom that he remembered hearing "a pop" that "wasn't very loud," thinking his TASER had malfunctioned, and then looking down to see his gun in his right hand.
Former BART police officer Johannes Mehserle wept on the witness stand at his second-degree murder trial today, as he described the sequence of events that led to the shooting of unarmed Oscar Grant on Jan 1, 2009, SF Gate.com reports.
Mehserle wept as he said he killed Grant by mistake. The former officer said he didn't realize he had shot Grant, 22, until he looked at his right hand after firing and saw he was holding his pistol.
Mehserle told a jury in a Los Angeles courtroom that he remembered hearing "a pop" that "wasn't very loud," thinking his TASER had malfunctioned, and then looking down to see his gun in his right hand.
During the testimony, a man later identified as Tim Killings shouted, "Maybe you should save those f-ing tears, dude." Killings was arrested.
