Maryland Officer Injured When Driver Rear-Ends Patrol Vehicle

An officer with the Howard County (MD) Police Department was injured when a driver in a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser rear-ended his patrol vehicle.

The agency said on Facebook that the officer was in the driver’s seat of his patrol vehicle, with emergency lights activated, and stopped in the right lane to divert traffic from the earlier collision when his vehicle was struck from behind.

The officer—whose name was not released—was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Facebook post concluded, "Police are reminding drivers of Maryland’s Move Over law. The law requires drivers approaching a stopped emergency or service vehicle with red, yellow or amber flashing to, when possible, move over a lane or slow to a reasonable and prudent speed that is safe for existing conditions while passing."
