Maryland Officer Facing Assault and Other Charges Following Arrest

An officer with the Prince George's County Police Department who was involved in a traffic stop that left a man partially paralyzed has been indicted on charges of second-degree assault, misconduct in office, and reckless endangerment charges.

According to NBC News, State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy announced the charges against Officer Bryant Strong in a statement released on Thursday.

Officers had pulled over a driver—identified as Demonte Ward Blake—last October and arrested him for driving on a suspended license.

During the arrest, a brief struggle ensued, during which the subject suffered a spinal injury that left him partially paralyzed.

The police union representing Officer Strong issued a statement in his support, saying, "We are confident that the evidence will show that his actions were fully justified and within policy."
