A man who served time for shooting an officer with the Rochester (NY) Police Department in 2009 was recently arrested in connection with a sting operation in which officers sought to purchase fentanyl, but is now out of jail without posting bail.
According to ABC News, the man—identified as Tyquan Rivera—was arrested in December, before New York's new bail reform laws took effect at the beginning of 2020.
At the time of his arrest, bail had been set at $25,000 cash or $100,000 bond, but Judge Sam Valleriani ruled that he cannot be held on bail or bond prior to his upcoming court proceedings for two counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance.
Rivera will be required to surrender his passport, and he will be outfitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet.
If convicted of these charges, Rivera could face up to 15 years in prison.
