Deputies approached the car and the driver was willing to show his hands but drew a handgun when Deputy Jared Mincemeyer asked him to get out of the car.

Body worn camera footage from two deputies at the scene of a Nov. 16 shooting shows that a motorist at a traffic stop drew a handgun before he was fatally shot.
The body-worn camera video is from two deputies on the scene: Jared Mincemeyer's BWC and an undercover deputy's BWC from the vehicle's passenger side.

Deputies made the traffic stop at 9:15 p.m. over an obscured tag.
The sheriff’s office said in a release that the deputies approached the car and the driver was willing to show his hands but drew a handgun when Deputy Mincemeyer asked him to get out of the car.
The suspect began to exit the vehicle with the firearm in his hand. Mincemeyer backed up before shooting the suspect, the sheriff’s office said.
The suspect was pronounced deat at a local hospital. .
"Our deputy was simply doing his job trying to protect our community when he was forced to defend himself against an armed individual," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "No deputy ever wants to face this situation, but when confronted with a deadly threat, they must act to protect themselves and others. Our deputies put their lives on the line every day to keep our community safe. It's unfortunate when criminals make choices that lead to fatal outcomes."
