Man Charged In Killing Memphis Officer Eligible for Death Penalty

The 22-year-old man accused of killing a police officer and his wife's ex-husband will face two charges of first-degree murder, which could bring the death penalty.

State prosecutor Jennifer Nichols said it is premature to say whether the state will seek the death penalty for Alexander Blaise Haydel. Haydel appeared in court this morning, and Nichols requested a mental evaluation for him.

At about 7 p.m. Sunday at the DoubleTree Hotel in Downtown, Memphis Police officer Timothy Warren, 39, and Arthur Warren, 49, also of Cleveland, were shot to death.
