The suspect is accused of opening fire last week on the cigar store employee after refusing to wear a mask inside the store, despite the clerk's explanation that it was required in order to be inside the shop.
A man who had allegedly committed a theft from a Bethlehem, PA, cigar store and fired a gun at the store clerk, reportedly opened fire the next day on police at a traffic stop.
According to NBC News , the man—identified by police as 35-year-old Adam Zaborowski—is accused of opening fire last week on the cigar store employee after refusing to wear a mask inside the store, despite the clerk's explanation that it was required in order to be inside the shop.
No one was injured, and Zaborowski reportedly fled in a vehicle. The next day, the suspect vehicle was spotted and stopped. Then Zaborowski leaped from his car and shot at officers, police say.
Officers returned fire, striking Zaborowski a number of times. One officer reportedly suffered an undisclosed injury during the exchange of gunfire. Zaborowski was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Zaborowski has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, robbery and reckless endangerment.
"Due to prior offenses, he was also charged with persons prohibited to possess a firearm," police said in a statement.
