Maine Police Department Conducts Safety Training for Houses of Worship

The Winslow (ME) Police Department recently hosted a free safety seminar for members of houses of worship in the central part of the state.

According to the Morning Sentinel , Chief Sean O'Leary was prompted to begin planning the event when he saw the news of the 2015 South Carolina church shooting in which nine black churchgoers were murdered.

He connected with a retired Portland police officer—Peter Joyce—to create the curriculum to help clergy and petitioners be safer in the event of an active shooter attack.

Joyce in his second career has founded a consulting and teaching organization called Special Reaction Team Concepts.
