A police chief in Massachusetts — who earned a White House honor for compassionate criminal justice last year — was fired Monday for showing a “lack of integrity” during an investigation into alleged misconduct with women.
Gloucester Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken announced the ouster of Police Chief Leonard Campanello less than a month after putting him on paid leave without explanation.
“I’ve lost confidence in Chief Leonard Campanello as a result of his actions,” Theken said at a press conference Monday.
The mayor said Campanello got axed not for the allegations, but for how he responded to them, the New York Daily News reports.
