A Washington Parish (Louisiana) Sheriff’s sergeant was seriously injured when an "impaired driver's" car hit his patrol vehicle as he was responding to a call for help Thursday night, according to the sheriff's office.

Sergeant John O'Hern was driving to answer a call for help and was south of Franklinton on Highway 25, when he was hit head-on, WWLT reports.
“[O’Hern] sustained serious injuries, including a shattered pelvis, a dislocated femur, and various bumps, cuts, and bruises,” the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office said on Facebook . The Sheriff’s Office added that it expects O’Hern’s recovery to be “long and challenging.”
