KHP says on Facebook that it can’t release many details about the incident because it remains under investigation and involves a minor.
The agency did say that the trooper who made the stop was assigned to the criminal interdiction unit.
There were two men both over 60 in the vehicle and a 6-year-old girl.
During the stop the trooper discovered that the man in the passenger seat of the SUV was wanted in another state for kidnapping a 6-year-old girl. The driver had a criminal history that included homicide and weapons violations.
The trooper called for back up, and a deputy from a local sheriff’s office responded. The deputy secured the two men while the trooper removed the 6-year-old from the vehicle.
KHP says the trooper spoke with the girl and she gave the trooper a false name and a false birth date. The trooper realized that the girl had been coerced. So he comforted and reassured the child and soon got her to tell him her real name.
The name was the same as the kidnapping victim. Both men were arrested. The girl was taken into protective custody.
Authorities are working to reunite the child with her family, Fox 4 reports.
The incident is under investigation.
