The Wichita (KS) Police Department has a total of 12 female recruits in its latest academy class—the most women ever in a single recruiting round—up from eight women in last year's batch of would-be WPD officers.
According to KWCH-TV , Sergeant Jeremy Vogel says that the agency welcomes the influx of female officers because the agency is "trying to reflect the community that we're serving. So when we go on calls, whether it's a certain gender or race, some people tend to be more comfortable with someone they can relate to."
