Jury Acquits Man In 1966 Shooting That Caused Philly Officer's Death
A jury has acquitted William Barnes for causing the death of Barclay, who succumbed to wounds 41 years after the 1966 shooting. Barnes had shot the 23-year-old rookie during a burglary.
A man who served 16 years after he was convicted for shooting and paralyzing Philadelphia Police Officer Walter Barclay won't be heading back to prison for murder, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
A jury acquitted William Barnes on Monday for causing the death of Barclay, who succumbed to wounds 41 years after the 1966 shooting. Barnes had shot the 23-year-old rookie during a burglary.
However, Barnes is likely to remain behind bars until 2030 for other convictions including two robberies and an attempted prison escape.
