Judge Dismisses One Charge Against Officer Accused of Killing George Floyd
A judge in Minnesota has dismissed a third-degree murder charge filed against an officer with the Minneapolis Police Department who is accused of causing the in-custody death of George Floyd in May.
Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill ruled that the third-degree murder charge against Derek Chauvin be dropped, but allowed the more serious charge of second-degree murder to remain in place.

According to NBC News, Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill ruled that the third-degree murder charge against Derek Chauvin be dropped, but allowed the more serious charge of second-degree murder to remain in place.
The former officer—who was fired by the department following the incident—reportedly kneeled on Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes until the man died.
Floyd's death sparked protests and riots in Minneapolis and other cities across America.
