Indiana Officer and K-9 Shot During Manhunt, Suspect Killed

A manhunt for a suspect who shot at police in the northwest part of South Bend, IN, has come to an end, but not before an officer was shot, as was a St. Joseph County K9 and the suspect was killed.
The incident started around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, St. Joseph County Police tried to serve a warrant to Rodney Ross, 30, who was wanted in Elkhart County on drug and weapons-related charges. Ross fired, then took off.
A search by land and air got underway in the area and, shortly before 4 p.m., investigators say Ross fired at officers, who returned fire.
The suspect was killed. An officer received a minor injury to the lower leg and was expected to be released from the hospital Tuesday evening.
K9 Luna suffered a gunshot wound to her inner right thigh area. After being shot, she was rushed to Roseland Animal Hospital and stabilized for transport to a 24 hour emergency clinic. Luna was taken to North Central Veterinary Emergency Center in Westville for further treatment early Tuesday evening. The bullet appeared to miss her leg bone, however may have clipped her femoral artery. The bullet was lodged in her leg and she was scheduled for surgery.
