Indiana Man Wielding Hammer Fatally Shot by Police

A man wielding a hammer was fatally shot by a Salem (IA) police officer on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Fox News , the man—identified as 53-year-old Mark A. Naugle—was reported as a suspicious person. Police arrived at the scene and Naugle allegedly approached the responding officer with a hammer.

At least one of the officers fired their weapon, fatally striking Naugle.

Both officers—neither of whom have not been identified—are now on paid administrative leave.
