IL Officer Shot, Suspect Killed in Shootout

A Peoria, IL, police officer was shot and wounded overnight after an attempted traffic stop. The suspect in the shooting is dead.

Peoria Police say officers' attempt to make a traffic stop at 2:27 a.m. resulted in the vehicle fleeing. The driver lost control of the car at Garden and Warren and then ran on foot. When police next saw the suspect, gunfire was exchanged.

The unidentified officer who was shot is in stable condition. The suspect, who was also shot, died later at the hospital, Peoria Public Radio reports.
