Hundreds of people held signs and banners in support of police officers during an event on New York's Long Island Monday. The pro-police rally was in response to demonstrations that decry law enforcement in the aftermath of the in-custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last month.
According to the New York Post , the demonstration in support of police took place in the town of Port Jefferson, near the site of an anti-police demonstration held three weeks ago. Event organizer Jonathan Stuart praised police for displaying everyday acts of heroism even as they face a backlash and allegations of racism, saying, "We know your job is tough," the 29-year-old gym owner told the crowd. “We know you have all Americans’ backs, and we have yours. … Standing up here is hard, being here is hard, but we are doing what must be done.”
