To help shave a projected $100 million budget deficit, Houston Mayor Annise Parker says police and fire overtime pay should be considered, the Houston Chronicle reports.
In 2009, the city paid $50 million in overtime pay to the Houston Police Department, which now maintains a 5,400-officer force that covers 600 square miles. The top-earning officer pulled in $127,014 in overtime pay working vehicular enforcement, the newspaper reports.
