House Passes Bill Honoring Park Ranger
The House of Representatives has passed a bill (H.R. 5788) that would name the post office in Eatonville, Wash., in honor of Park Ranger Margaret Anderson.
The House of Representatives has passed a bill (H.R. 5788) that would name the post office in Eatonville, Wash., in honor of Park Ranger Margaret Anderson.
On Jan. 1, Anderson was killed in the line of duty while establishing a road block to prevent a pursued suspect from escaping. The suspect opened fire and fatally wounded her. Rep. Dave Reichert (R‐Wash.) sponsored the bill, which must gain Senate approval.
"Although this bill cannot undo the heinous actions of the gunman, naming a building in honor of a fallen hero will allow her actions to be remembered and honored by the citizens of Park Ranger Anderson’s hometown," according to a statement from the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA).
Anderson is one of eight federal law enforcement officers who have been killed in the line of duty in 2012.
