The Supreme Court will hear an appeal from a former Baltimore city police officer convicted on charges of extortion and conspiracy to commit extortion, reports the Associated Press.
The justices said Monday they will decide whether to overturn the 2012 conviction of the officer for his role in a towing company kickback scheme.
The officer claims he didn't violate the law because he never tried to get money from anyone outside the conspiracy.
Two officers were shot in Gainesville, Florida, by a man who police say was leaving an area where he had killed a man inside a business. The suspect exited his vehicle in what the chief termed an “ambush-style” attack.
