SEARCHA grand jury has indicted Pittsburgh's former police chief on charges of conspiracy and tax evasion. Nathan Harper, who resigned in late February, allegedly embezzled $70,628 from the Pittsburgh Police Bureau's special events office.

A grand jury has indicted Pittsburgh's former police chief on charges of conspiracy and tax evasion, the FBI announced Friday.
Nathan Harper, who resigned in late February, allegedly embezzled $70,628 from the Pittsburgh Police Bureau's special events office between 2009 and 2012. Harper, 60, allegedly diverted the funds into two accounts at the Greater Pittsburgh Police Federal Credit Union.
Harper allegedly used Visa debit cards to withdraw $31,000. He also failed to file federal tax returns for 2008 through 2011, according to the FBI.
Harper's attorney told the Post-Gazette his client plans to plead guilty to all charges.
If convicted, Harper faces up to nine years in prison and $650,000 fine relating to the five-count indictment. Regina McDonald is now serving as acting police chief.
