After a five-county pursuit of a stolen cement truck, Georgia State Patrol troopers shot the vehicle to disable it and end the chase Monday morning.
According to GSP, troopers got involved in the chase shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. Officials say attempts were made to use spike strips to stop the truck, but they were unsuccessful.
GSP told FOX54 that a trooper riding in the passenger seat of another Trooper's patrol vehicle was able to fire rounds into the rear radiator and hydraulic tanks, which disabled the truck.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff's, Erik Adam Bodie, 41, of Martinez is charged with motor vehicle theft, felony fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, and running a red light. Maj. Steve Morris says more charges are coming from other agencies.
The truck was stolen around 8:55 a.m. at a gas station in Grovetown, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies chased the truck onto I-20 then troopers took over as the heavy truck sped through five counties sometimes spilling wet cement, WRDW reports.
The wet cement closed multiple lanes of I-20 for much of Monday.
