GA Deputy Shot Responding to Disturbance Call

A Richmond County, GA, deputy sheriff was struck by gunfire early Thursday morning while responding to a disturbance call.

Deputies responded to the disturbance at 1:41 a.m. and the sheriff’s office reports a man began shooting, striking one officer. The deputy was taken to an area hospital for treatment, reports WRDW , however his name has not yet been released.

The injuries were not life threatening and the deputy is in stable condition, reports WJBF .

Following the shooting, the suspect barricaded himself and a SWAT team responded. He later surrendered and was taken into custody.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation responded to assist the sheriff’s office and deployed its crime scene investigation unit.
