Former Chicago Officer Convicted of Murder of Teen Attacked in Prison

A former police officer with the Chicago Police Department—who was convicted in October of second-degree murder for killing 17-year-old Laquan McDonald in 2014—was reportedly beaten by inmates in a Connecticut prison.

According to NBC News , the wife of former Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke cried Wednesday as she described learning that her husband was attacked in prison.

"I don't know how safe he is. I don't know the extent of his injuries," Tiffany Van Dyke said, flanked by her husband's attorneys at a news conference. "At the end of the day, I want my husband home. I want him to be safe."

The attack reportedly occurred at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut—a low-security prison.

Van Dyke was kept in isolation while being held in Illinois, but was initially placed in the general population in the Connecticut facility.
