Former California Law Enforcement Officer Arrested for Firearm Trafficking

A captain with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department who retired just two months ago now faces 19 charges including conducting firearm sales, providing false statements, and aiding and abetting the possession of marijuana.

According to NBC News , 52-year-old Marco Garmo—a 27-year veteran of the department who retired in September as the investigation into his activities was ongoing—reportedly acquired 146 weapons and sold at least 104 of them.

Prosecutors also accuse Garmo of alerting owners of an illegal marijuana dispensary that law enforcement was planning to search their unlicensed operation, reportedly owned by Garmo's cousin.

On Friday, Lieutenant Fred Magana pleaded guilty Friday in federal court in San Diego to charges of aiding Garmo's business by making straw purchases of firearms.
